1. Do I need to be an NABC member to participate?
Yes, your membership allows NABC to remain sustainable for enhancing the Recycled Rides program as well as the many other programs we offer to enhance the image of the industry.
2. Does it cost money to participate?
Yes. The participation fee is $250, which covers the Recycled Rides workbook developed by NABC, a large green bow and banner to be used at the Recycled Rides Rideaway Day Event, a timeline that charts key events in the life of the project, draft press releases for local media, and a variety of other support mechanisms from NABC.
3. How do I get involved?
First contact the NABC office at 1-888-667-7433 (888-66PRIDE). Ask any questions you may have. If you decide to participate, make sure your membership dues are paid. Once your membership dues and the participation fee are paid, you will receive the Recycled Rides workbook which provides a blueprint for initiating, managing and completing the project. The Recycled Rides program committee will conduct introductory webinars and provide periodic informational e-newsletters to help you stay on track.
4. Do the cars have to be donated the Monday before Thanksgiving?
The intent of the program is to have simultaneous donations around the country the Monday before Thanksgiving. This increases the chance of getting press coverage, therefore the NABC prefers you make a sincere effort to adhere to this date.
5. I am a collision repairer, How do I get hold of a vehicle to donate?
There are a number of sources
for vehicles including, but not limited to, insurance companies, rental car companies, and auto auctions. Use your own local contacts to find a vehicle or contact NABC to see if they have identified a source in your area which has committed to assisting with vehicle procurement.
6. To whom do I donate?
You must partner with a charity. The vehicle will be conveyed from its source to the charity, and your company will do the work on behalf of the charity, which also has certain responsibilities. One is to find the recipient, although you might want to be involved in that process. Ideally the recipient will be a family in need. Another responsibility of the charity is to assist with local media coverage for NABC’s Recycled Rides and your shop’s participation in this project—this is very important.
7. What industry segments are involved with this project?
Most industry segments have expressed their support for Recycled Rides. Collision repair shops will do the repair work, find the charity and conduct the Rideaway
Day Event. Insurers, auto auctions, rental car companies and others can donate vehicles. Parts vendors with national networks have shown their willingness to provide parts. Paint and material vendors have expressed their commitment to work with the industry. And we encourage you to seek assistance from a local mechanical shop or towing company if you need those services during the project. Some shops have even managed to secure gift cards for gasoline, toys and donated services to accompany the vehicle. These can be presented with the vehicle during the Recycled Rides Rideaway Day Event.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS PROJECT IS IN NABC’S RECYCLED RIDES WORKBOOK. IN ADDITION, ONGOING SUPPORT AND SCHEDULE REMINDERS WILL BE PROVIDED BY NABC.
